Scott Standish has always been interested in the concept of “place” and the interrelationships between people and the communities in which they live and the places they visit. This led Scott, in his early academic life, to undertake the study of Geography, at Millersville University, and then later, to obtain a professional certification in Tourism Destination Management from the George Washington University.
Scott has been employed by the Lancaster County Planning Commission for thirty-seven years and has served in a number of progressive positions that have given him the opportunity work with the public, private and non-profit communities to help ensure that Lancaster County remains a great place to live and great place to visit in the future.
In his current position, as the Director for Countywide Planning, Scott is responsible for leading a team of eight professional planners in preparing and guiding the implementation of the Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan (places2040) and smart growth strategies. He approaches this challenge in a holistic way as a means for creating and enhancing Lancaster County as a vital and unique authentic place.
As a native of Lancaster County, Scott enjoys living in Lancaster City and restoring his 1892 Victorian home. He enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, camping, bicycling, kayaking, and of course, traveling to unique and authentic destinations.
